DADA MUSIC WORKSHOP @ the Performance Space

Facilitated by the amazing Casula Powerhouse Education and Public Programs team

Registration: drop in workshop – capacity is 20 participants at a time so get in early

Time: 11am – 1pm

Age: recommended for kids under 12 years

Want to create your own music? Want to make your own instruments? Come join the Dada Music workshop and you can be part of some funky percussion beats. Learn about sculpture and sounds at the same time.  Each instrument will be an imaginative response to some of the greatest artists of our time, The Dadaists.

Instruments will be original art pieces as well as being functional musical instruments to take home. Materials include cardboard, pencil and pastels.

AFRO BEATS DANCE WORKSHOP @ the Performance Space

Facilitated by dancer Mina Glam

Mina Glam leads an energetic Afro beat dance workshop you cannot miss!  inspired by indigenous dance forms from Reunion Island, the Caribbean, as well as traditional and urban dances from West Africa, Mina combines modern dance styles to create an engaging, fun and unique workshop experience.

WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOPS @ Outdoors

Facilitated by master percussionist Malin Sylla from Afro Nomad

Age: recommended 12+

It is not often that you get a chance to experience a workshop with Malin Sylla. He is the creative powerhouse behind Afro Nomad – a band that fuses traditional West African music with blues, funk, soukous and Latin jazz to create energetic and soulful performances. This workshop is not to be missed.

CAPOEIRA ANGOLA WORKSHOP @ the Performance Space

Facilitated by Juvarn Thebus from Project Bantu

Registration: required on the day

Time: 3pm – 4pm

Age: recommended 12+

Project Bantu introduces the Brazilian art of Capoeira Angola. Capoeira Angola combines the healing potential of musical and physical expression to produce a range of social and learning outcomes. This is an introductory workshop where you will learn some of physical movements of Capoeira Angola, sing the traditional songs and play some of the instruments necessary for Capoeira Angola.

HULA HOOPS WORKSHOPS @ Outdoors

Facilitated by Mel Wheeler

Registration: not required – just drop in

Time: 12.30pm – 3.30pm

Age: all ages

Mel is a hula hoop powerhouse. Lightning speed, meets creative flow and freakishly impressive tricks. Not only a professional Hula hooper, she’s an artist by trade and you
can see her creative mind channelling through her hula hoop dance.

Mel is a little bit of a freak in the circle. Her spirit comes alive when she is spinning and twirling. She is passionate about sharing the joy and love of hoop dance throughout the community, teaching and inspiring the ideas of creative play with anyone who would like to have a go, whether you are 9 or 90, she is guaranteed to get you spinning!


There will be an ATM on Festival site, however other close ATMs are located in the Liverpool CBD or Casula Mall.
