Afro Latino Festival stems from an acknowledgement that African and Latin American communities share a strong cultural heritage. Latin America has a 500-year history of African descendants that started with African slaves taken to the Americas by the Spanish colonisation. Today, the African diaspora is apparent all over the world and, in our own backyard, African cultural infuences continue to enrich Sydney’s cultural diversity.
Afro Latino Festival is an initiative of the NSW Spanish and Latin American Association for Social Assistance (NSW SLASA) in partnership with the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, and other organisations – check out our Partners & Sponsors page.
We are proud to announce the 2nd Afro Latino Festival will be held on Saturday 3rd March 2012, 11am-6pm, at the magnificent Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, presenting an exciting and unique showcase of African & Afro-Latin American music, cuisine, arts & crafts, dance, history and culture.
